Class #1:
- Introduction to Leslie B. Demille's favorite brand and colors of pastels and papers, honed over 40 years of painting commissioned portraits. Examples of his method of making strokes and layering colors that yields a perfect skin tone. He will begin a sepia-toned portrait from a photo. Class assignment is to begin your own sepia portrait from the same photograph.
Class #2:
- Mr. DeMille will demo oversized (3-4 times normal) eyes, mouths, and noses in sepia tone. This will show you how to simplify the details that derail most figurative paintings. He will complete the portrait begun in the first class, and the class assignment is to complete theirs.
Class #3:
- Beginning with a new photo, Mr. Demille will show you how to add color to a sepia-toned portrait, how he layers soft pastels WITHOUT fingers or other tools, from the simple darks to the light mid-tones.
Class #4:
- The final lecture will be an overview of the refinements necessary to bring a portrait to completion. After watching Mr. DeMille finish his color portrait begun in Class #3, the class assignment is to bring their portrait to completion.
